Adam went to Kuantan
|
|
My wife had a conference in Kuantan, last wednesday. We started the journey earlier so that we could visit some friends on the way there. It was quite a long journey, it was almost 11pm when we reached the hotel. It rained all the way, everyone was tired so when we finally got our room everybody fell asleep quicker than we could say "Domino Pizza". Anyway we discovered the next day that they don't have Domino Pizza in Kuantan...
Adam in a playful mood after a good night sleep.
The kids really enjoyed the spacious room.
Nana enjoying the stay... and the swimming pool of course.
Well, are we ready to go now mama ?
Hmm... I'm thinking of some place shady, with a lot of fresh air... a place where we can relax and enjoy at the same time...hmm...
Hey, here we come !
Adam arrived there sleeping...
A few minutes later he was ready to explore the beach.
Madihah putting on a big smile (of course she's also thinking of the swimming pool back at the hotel)
Ah.. now Adam is really awake... looking curiously at the waves..
Now everybody can take a dip...no, we only dip our feet this time. This is really Adam's first experience at a beach.
Ok. Serious pose now, everyone !
Look Abah ! Patrick !

Adam went to Mines Wonderland
|
|
My head feels a little bit dizzy today. Maybe it was the rain or could it be the seven hours of driving. In fact it was fourteen hours of driving from "Toronto" to Batu Pahat and back to Toronto again.
I've accomplished quite a number of tasks in one day and a half.
On our way back from Batu Pahat we stopped at Mines for a couple of hours.
We managed to save some money on the hotel since my wife insisted that we didn't sleep in KL.
Well, I was a little sad that I didn't get to see one of my good friends there. What I really wanted was to inspect his brand new Katana.
Anyway, we had a lot of fun while we were in KL.
At the entrance of the theme park.
The kids at the unity fountain. Somehow, it feels like we were in China.
At the entrance of the Ice Factory, where they exhibit a lot of ice scupltures.
I just like the ambient light. I regret not bringing in my tripod very much.
Everybody was excited, sitting on the ice sofa. I think it was subzero, but they didn't mind it. Even Adam was very excited to see those sculptures.
The entrance of an Ice Castle (of some sort).
Wow, doesn't it feel like halloween? Actually it was drizzling outside, that is why they are wearing the hood. Everyone has got a head cover except me.....aaatchum !
Look ! Abah found a baby panda !
I don't know what this is. Some kind of a gate of some chinese mansion I guess. But it does make a nice background.
This is quite a surreal scene.
It feels like you're in some kind of a chinese-ghost-story movie, don't you think?
We were actually riding on a train and the lens was still foggy because we just got out of the Ice Factory.
The musical fountain and the aqua movie show were excellent. Even Adam enjoyed them very much. He pointed his finger to the fountain and said "Tu...tu..tu" (meaning "There...there...there").

"La Rentrée" for my three kids
|
|
Today is the first day of school for my three kids.
The school wanted four passport size photos for each of them, that is 3 x RM10 = RM30 phew !
What about some DIY to save me some money?
Ok, it was quite easy. I set up my home studio, i.e. a small chair, a reading light and a highly decorated wall (drawn by the three artists themselves).
I took some test shots, set the white balance, adjusted the lighting a bit and took pictures of those excited-to-go-to-school kids.
Fired up photoshop CS3, used the extraction filter to cut out the ugly wall, replaced the bakground with whatever color I like.
Made some measurements of the pixels.
Opened a new canvas for each kid, copied and pasted once, thrice, six times and even eight times (to get different sizes - for fun that is, I could have copied 8 times for each of them directly and finished)
Below are some of the resulting images.
I went to the photo shop (note the diffence with photoshop) and asked them to print those files in 4R format. How would you like to pay 45 cents for eight passport size photos?
I gave the school the 4 photos and now I still have 4 photos of each of them as spares.
All that for a mere RM1.35 instead of RM30.00 that is 1/22 of the original price that they would have charged.
In addition to that I got very nice smiling picture of my kids, instead of the typical sour face that they would have shown in front of a stranger who wouldn't even spend the time to make them feel comfortable and snap-snap-snap away and print-print-print away.
I would still be obliged to pay no matter if I like the resulting photos or not. I have experienced that too many times to have high expectation of their "professionall" service.
Well, "It pays to be IT literate" doesn't it ?!

Adam attends a wedding
|
|
My cousin got married today !
(Actually he got married a month ago but the ceremony is held today.)
Wow, whose idea was it to get married on Christmas.
Talk about exchanging presents, and an anniversary that cannot be easily forgotten.
I've always refrained myself from posting other people's photos without getting their consent but I think I'll make an exception for this one since they look so lovely.
For the benefit of those who've never attended a malay wedding; on the wedding day the groom will come to the bride's place (normally her parent's house) dressed nicely , sits on a little stage or a mock throne (we call them king and queen for a day) with his beloved couple and let people come, see and take pictures of them. This way everybody will know who is married to whom. They they will go and eat together at a designated table (and people will still snap pictures of them while they are eating, funny huh).
Anyway I missed the oppurtunity to snap them while they were eating beacuse I was also busy eating at the same time, ha ha ha, nothing comes between a meal and a fat man ho ho ho ho.....

Adam went to Aquaria
|
|
School holidays again ! Nana had been talking about Aquaria weeks before the holidays have even begun. So I promise the kids if they behave...
We rented a room at 5 minutes walking distance from the Twin Towers so obviously we had to walk to go there. The kids were very excited, furthermore it was still early in the morning.
We finally reach Aquaria after 45 minutes or so. How come ?
Yeah, you know the walk made us hungry so we stopped for food first. Hmm, we had some Lebanese kebab: quite nice actually.
Well, here I know that this one is blurry but the lighting was really bad yet I still wanted to capture the background. This was taken after we had been going through the aquarium tunnel (whatever they call it) for 3 times !!! (well, I wanted to make it worth what I paid for, heh heh heh heh). So that explains why Muhammad is soo moody (he's always like that when he is tired, he he he).
It was impossible to get a good picture inside the tunnel, not unless you have a tripod and/or a more sensitive sensor.
Back at the hotel, everybody is happy with the Aquaria T-Shirt that I've bought them and don't forget the Blinking Pen !
This is the view that we've got from the hotel.
An oasis within the concretes !
Wait ! Where is Adam ?
Well, he just didn't want his picture taken this time.
We got him a nice green Aquaria t-shirt, so that he'd agree to be photographed, yet he still refused. It's getting harder to bribe him these days.

A reminiscence of Adam's birthday

Note the innocent face...oblivious to the world that he was brought into that very day.
